OSADA GIENIUGA
District (Powiat) Wołkowysk
Osada Gieniuga was located in the Wołkowysk district, 14 km away from the town Zelwa, and 15 km from Różany. It was inhabited by 18 settlers, soldiers, who received plots there after Poland regained her independence in 1918 for their participation in the fight for that independence.
The settlers from the settlement Gieniuga: Wójtowicz, Smerczak, Szulc, Wiatr, Spałek, Dymurski, Duda, Żymła, Mackiewicz, Różowiec, Twardowski, Korzeniewski, Marzonaj, Konieczny, Tyburczy, Jałoszyński, Kacpura, Szydłowski.
We attended a public school, five-class, in Stawatycze, and the nearest middle school was in Słonim, or Wołkowysk. We belonged to a parish in Międzyrzecz, ten kilometres away from the settlement. All business matters were dealt with in the town of Zelwa, where a cooperative and an Agricultural Bank were located. In the neighbourhood, within about ten km radius, were located two other settlements – Żerna and Konna.
